Formulas are more than just the sum of the parts.  The synergism can yield varying effects.

Interactions yield 2 outcomes:

1. Reducing predictability of action of formula
2. Increasing healing potential beyond the sum of the parts.

Relationship among herbs in formulas:

1. Additive
2. Synergistic
3. Inhibiting – used to counteract side effects
