Circulatory Stimulants

Circulatory Stimulants

Specific herbs that stimulates circulation, not that it is energizing or jitter producing like caffeine or ephedrine.  Generally, I stay away from using the word “stimulant” with clients.

  • Kerala Ginger (slide 53)
  • Cayenne and chilies in general (slide 54)
  • Peppercorns (slide 55)

Kerala Ginger

Mildly warming cardiovascular stimulant.  In Ayurveda, Ginger is called the universal medicine for the cardiovascular system.  It’s not the best for some things, but it does balance blood pressure and is mildly warming.

Cayenne / Chilies

Probably the most overused herb in Western Herbalism.  It is not a general purpose herb.  Not to be added to just any formula.

In small reasonable amounts, it will definitely increase circulation.

Peppercorns (slide 55 of black pepper)

There are a hundred species of peppercorns that are used around the world for food and medicine.

Black Pepper

Black pepper is used in Ayurveda.  It is considered to be the premier blood cleanser, the detoxifier of the blood in the whole system of Ayurveda.

Black Pepper is a mildly warming circulatory enhancer that happens to be particularly detoxifying.
